Ken Lay, founder of Enron, who died of a heart attack yesterday, claimed that Enron was "brought down by by the actions of reckless subordinates."
We can all agree that leadership, as well as management are vital aspects of running any kind of business or a household for that matter.
Ultimately the quality of that leadership falls under the direction of personal values, principles, beliefs and preferences.
In order for you to fully take up your leadership you have to first know what those values, principles, beliefs and preferences are.
Then you must determine if they are the "right" ones for you.
Once determined or course corrected, the next step is to make a commitment to live by them, stand by them, support them and when faced with a challenge stick with them.
Ok...so perhaps that sounds a lot easier than it seems, but with out that, your ability to lead will at best be severely hampered...at worst made impossible.
So to begin with....
you need to know your Default Leadership Style (tm)...
Your default leadership style is the way in which you both verbally and non verbally behave when stressed, angry, or disappointed.
In my case when stressed, I become short, dictatorial and authoritative, putting my concerns about the task ahead of the concerns for the people who may be on my team.
What's your Default Style of Leadership???
