" I don't think much of myself, but I am all I ever think about"
-- A client of mine.
There we both were. Sitting in my New York City office and he said it. The cause of all of our suffering summed up in one simple sentence!
Let me share with you some more insights from that conversation...
In order to accelerate your path to misery, aside from self-centered thinking, let us take a giant leap forward in the pursuit of misery and remember with practice comes perfection!
- Analyze everything to death. You have heard the term analysis paralysis? If you want to stop your progress and curtail your own evolution, take heed and by all means analyze everything. You will find your self at a stand still in no time.
- Worry. Don't just be a weekend worrier! There are all sorts of good times to worry and if you are smart you will save your best worrying at night. Why at night? Because this will insure that you will not sleep well. Nothing can make you more miserable that poor sleep.
- Fault find...no not with other people, just with yourself. Turn up the volume on that self critical voice and start listening. Remember, keep an accurate and up to date account of them.
- Stall, wait until the last minute on everything. Bills, trips, errands, your job, picking up the kids, getting food...I mean it, everything...nothing can add to that sense of misery like a sense of having to rush.
- Set unrealistic and ginormous goals. Goals that you can possible reach. This will give you that wonderful nagging sense of failure.
- Keep your needs, wants and desires a BIG SECRET. Don;t tell a soul. This will help you live in a constant state of disappointment adding to that sense of failure and worry.
- live in the past and future....especially a well contracted version..you know the ones I mean. Like your parents were always awful to you and didn't ever show you that they loved and cared etc...you get my drift...or in a future of "if only" and "When I" sitting around longing for something that will never come.
- Sit still and practice affirmations and then don't take any conscious action in order to support or actualize them...magical thinking...thats it...that will add to your sense of misery.
- Read and watch the news constantly...this will send you into a whirl wind of "what's the point living!
- Never take a vacation...after all, the world can't go on with out you. You are far too important for that...and this will help you maintain your self centered thinking!
Have some more to add to this list???
Please feel free!
